Kalaram Temple

Origin and ArchitectureBuilt in 1782 by Sardar Rangarao Odhekar, the Kalaram Temple is a magnificent Hindu temple in Maharashtra located in the Panchavati area of Nashik. This architectural marvel is constructed entirely from black basalt stone extracted from the Ramshej hills. The temple follows the Nagara style and is unique because no mortar or cement was used; instead, the stones were joined using molten lead. The temple complex is surrounded by an enclosure with 96 pillars.Worship and Special RitualsThe temple houses a two-feet tall idol of Lord Rama, carved from black stone, along with Sita and Lakshman. Daily rituals include Kakad Aarti and Shej Aarti. The most significant festival is Ram Navami, celebrated with a grand Rath Yatra where the deities are taken in a silver chariot through the city, attracting thousands of devotees. Chaitra Padwa is also observed with great fervor.Visitor Information and FacilitiesThe best season to visit is from September to March when the weather is pleasant. Nearby visitor points include Sita Gufaa, Kapaleshwar Temple, and the holy Ram Kund. The temple complex offers basic facilities like drinking water and shoe stands. It remains open from 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM. Visitors are encouraged to maintain the sanctity of the premises and participate in the afternoon 'Bhog' or evening prayers for a complete spiritual experience.
